Albert Arnold "Al" Gore, Jr. is an American environmental activist and former politician who served as the 45th Vice President of the United States from 1993 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton. He is an author, businessperson, former U.S. Senator and former journalist. Gore also starred in the 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth, which won an Academy Award in 2007 and wrote the book An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of global warming and What We Can do About It which won a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album in February 2009.

Gore was involved in American politics for 24 years, serving first in the U.S. House of Representatives (1977–85) and later in the U.S. Senate (1985–93) (representing Tennessee) before becoming vice president.

Gore is the recipient of a number of awards. He and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. Gore received a Primetime Emmy Award for Current TV in 2007, and a Webby Award in 2005. Time named Gore as a runner-up for its 2007 Person of the Year.

Jim Morrison serves as Director of Strategic Planning and Campus Sustainability Coordinator at the University of Mississippi. He oversees the Office of Sustainability and provides leadership and strategic direction for the UM Green Initiative. He is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering programs and initiatives that will help the University of Mississippi improve its operational efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases as outlined in the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment.

Morrison also leads the Office of Strategic Planning in the advancement of the University’s strategic planning objectives by providing leadership and guidance in the areas of academic planning and operations, policy development, and institutional analysis in support of university planning priorities.

Prior to joining Ole Miss in September of 2007, Morrison worked for Huron Consulting Group, an operational and strategic consulting firm out of Chicago, IL. At Huron, he assisted major research institutions on projects related to operational and financial analysis, academic research, policy and governance, and institutional strategic planning.

A native of Jackson, MS, Morrison holds a B.B.A in Managerial Finance from the University of Mississippi and Masters in Higher Education Administration from Columbia University.

John Hailman began his career in journalism as a columnist for the Washington Post. He served as a nationally syndicated wine, food and travel columnist for Gannett News Service. His weekly column appeared in 100 daily papers for 15 years. He is the author of a critically acclaimed biography entitled Thomas Jefferson On Wine. As an Overby Fellow, Hailman is currently at work on three new books: From Midnight to Guntown: A Prosecutor in the Land of Faulkner and Elvis; Good Wine, a compilation of his columns, and a law school text: Law and Literature from Confucius to John Grisham.

In his day job, Hailman was a career prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Oxford for 33 years. He served as Legal Counsel to the late U.S. Senator John Stennis when he was chairman of the Armed Services and Ethics Committees, during the historic period known as Watergate. Hailman served for two years as law clerk to Chief Judge William C. Keady, when the Judge integrated the public schools of North Mississippi. He worked as a civil rights lawyer for both North Mississippi Rural Legal Services and California Rural Legal Assistance.

He is a graduate of Millsaps College in Jackson, holds a Masters Degree from Tulane, and his J.D. from the University of Mississippi. He was a Graduate Fellow in Trial Practice at Georgetown University Law School.Hailman has taught law at the University of Mississippi for over 20 years as well as the FBI Academy and the Justice Department’s school for prosecutors. He has taught law internationally for DOJ in over a dozen countries, from Morocco and Tunisia to Indonesia, the Republics of Georgia and Moldova, and the Sultanate of Oman. Hailman speaks fluent French and has served as an interpreter both for France and DOJ’s Office of International Affairs.
